You can’t make me exercise!!!

September 12, 2007

Okay - so maybe you can. The company has started a healthy competition called “The Amazing Race”. Alas, no exotic locals in this race, and I only get to go as far as my feet can take me. Maybe it is more of a “Not so Amazing Race”. When they sent out the invite for all to participate, I for sure was in the group of “I don’t normally exercise, but if there is a prize at the end of this I will do it”. There are prizes, so I’m in. (And it better not be some crappy exercise ball or something…)

Teams are made up of 5 people, and we are required to go 1000 miles by December 14th to qualify for the grand prize. Our team name is “Craig and the Skinnies” since everyone on the team is already super thin but me. :S Biking is a 3/1 conversion (3 miles of biking makes 1 mile walking/running) and 15 minutes of cardio or weights is a mile. Doesn’t sound too bad, unless you take into account that walking to the bathroom doesn’t count as anything. Luckily I’ve got 2 avid bikers on the team that will pick up the slack for the rest of us.

So, I had to figure out something I could do with my limited schedule and small resources. Here is what I came up with for starters:

  • Pushups, situps, leg lifts 15 minutes every morning.
  • Walking 2.5 miles during lunch.
  • Gotta do 15 miles a week to make the goal.

I realize that is not too impressive of a list, but you gotta start somewhere. Right now I am doing 30 girl push-ups (no offense girls!!), 30 crunches, and 30 “bird-dogs”. (I would explain that one but I don’t want to put a disturbing visual in your head.) I am hoping that one of the side benefits is that I can lose 2 lbs a week. I am at 224 now, and that would get me down under 200 by the time we finish with this.

Wish me luck!!!

  1. It’s really far too late to worry about putting disturbing visuals into this head, Zed.

But I think your plans sound great! However, I don’t see anything there about laying off the daily bucket of pop and pogos… That probably would make the job even easier. ;-)

    Good Luck!! You’ll do great!!
